About Us

Until one million pray at the same time

The ‘Nehemiah One Million Prayer Petition’ Campaign is designed to engage people from all over the world who have a heart for North Korea.

Through this campaign we REMEMBER the 25 million North Korean citizens, STAND WITH them, and PRAY for them. Inspiration comes from the 178,000 people who petitioned former President Obama to fight for the release of Kenneth Bae, detained from 2012 to 2014 in North Korea.

Its aim is to have one million people simultaneously praying for the 25 million North Koreans who live there. Join us in prayer by signing the petition.

WHY WE PRAY

From one person's prayerto a million prayers

This is not a movement of politics or ideology. It is a movement of love for the people who live in that land.

445 B.C.

Nehemiah sat down and wept

Nehemiah, an official in the royal court, heard that Jerusalem lay in ruins and first sat down to pray. What began in that prayer led to the wall being rebuilt in just 52 days.

735 days

One man set free

Missionary Kenneth Bae was detained in North Korea for 735 days. Behind his release were 177,000 signatures from around the world and the prayers of countless people.

25 million

Now, the people of that land

If signatures and prayer brought one person home, a million prayers can reach 25 million. Prayer is the one road no border can inspect.

I was imprisoned for a time, but the people of North Korea must live their whole lives imprisoned in a world without freedom. Just as countless signatures and prayers set me free, I hope the day comes soon when a million prayers bring freedom to 25 million North Koreans.

Why prayer is needed now

01

Living in an authoritarian state

According to a 2021 report on human rights, the U.S. Department of State described the North Korean government as “an authoritarian state led by the Kim family since 1949.”

02

2nd highest Christian persecution

Despite dropping to number 2 after 20 years at the top, persecution remains absolute in every area of life — scoring 96 out of 100 persecution points.

03

Christians arrested, churches closed

Under the 2020 law rejecting reactionary ideology and culture, Christians are arrested and churches discovered by the government are shut down.

04

Christians are imprisoned

The Christian population is estimated at about 400,000 (1.5%), of whom 50,000–70,000 are held in prisons and labor camps.

05

South Koreans are imprisoned too

Six South Koreans (Kim Jungwook, Kim Gukki, Choi Chun-gil, Kim Wonho, Ko Hyunchul, Ham Jinwoo) are jailed in North Korea, some detained for 13 years (U.S. Dept. of State).

06

Information is controlled

North Korea ranked lowest among all nations in the “free information inflow” category.
